Job Title: Fiber Technician Job Description The Fiber Technician installs, splices, tests, and maintains fiber optic cable across a variety of environments, ensuring high-quality connectivity and reliable network performance. This role combines hands-on field work with technical troubleshooting, including reading and interpreting technical documents, performing precise splices, and conducting detailed testing using specialized equipment. Responsibilities - Splice various types and sizes of fiber optic cable, including single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon cables, with a strong focus on accurate ribbon splicing. - Analyze and troubleshoot basic technical issues related to fiber optic installations, connectivity, and performance. - Review, interpret, and work from maps, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and testing documents to plan and complete fiber work accurately. - Perform daily tests, checks, and routine maintenance on splicing and testing equipment to ensure proper operation and reliability. - Conduct optical continuity and conformance testing using tools such as OTDR and power meters to verify quality and integrity of fiber links. - Make splicing rearrangements and modifications on existing fiber facilities in buried, underground, aerial, and in-building locations. - Complete terminations and connections using appropriate hand tools and methods to meet technical and safety standards. - Follow established safety practices and work procedures while performing construction, assembly, splicing, and wiring tasks in telecom and data center environments. - Coordinate work sequences in construction and underground settings to support fiber optic installation and maintenance activities.
